“If the group is an art form of the future, then convening groups is an artistry we must cultivate to fully harvest the promise of the future.” -Jacob Needleman
- a thoughtful invitation in order to begin to build meaningful relationships
- getting all community members and stakeholders in the room
- respecting and honoring diversity and difference
Once a group comes together, community engagement is about the art of inquiry, asking powerful questions, thinking deeply together, and harvesting (capturing) our own learning in the process.
As conversation hosts rather than facilitators (read “From Hero to Host” by Deborah Frieze and Margaret Wheatley), we create spaces of safety and connection to share stories, remember what it is that we value, and move forward together.
